Converting Transparent SVGs to PNG Without Losing Alpha

July 4, 2026 · 3 min read

I once delivered a set of UI component PNGs to a frontend developer. He pinged me five minutes later: "Why do these all have white backgrounds?" The converter I used had flattened the alpha channel to white. I spot-check every batch now before sending files to anyone. Use our transparency-preserving SVG to PNG converter and you will not have that Slack message.

Not All Converters Handle Alpha Correctly

Some tools fill transparent areas with white. Some flatten semi-transparent shadows into opaque blobs. The result looks fine on a white background but breaks on dark mode. Quick check: open the PNG against a dark background. If you see an unexpected white rectangle, the alpha channel was lost. Convert with guaranteed transparency →
